Weekly Happenings

Hello! I hope everyone had a great long weekend!

Here is what's going on this week: 

Writing: This week the students will begin drafting the third and fourth chapters of their informational books. The third chapter is a historical narrative. The fourth chapter is an essay explaining why their focus topic is important. Their drafts of all four chapters should be completed by the end of Friday.

Reading: The students will continue to research the causes of the Revolutionary War. We will work on putting yourself in the shoes of the people they are researching. They will also work on recognizing different perspectives as they research.

Word Study: Their next word study tests are now scheduled for Friday, January 29th.

Science: The students will be working in science stations. The stations will review and teach different electricity concepts. They will have a small circuits quiz next week.

Math: We will wrap up chapter 8 this week. The students will understand and show mixed numbers and improper fractions. We will also spend some time reviewing past fraction concepts. Their test will be this Friday.

Weekly Happenings

Hello! I hope everyone had a great holiday season!! The students had an amazing first day back! We are going to have a great second quarter!

Here is what's going on this week: 

Writing: We will be starting informational books. In this unit, the student will write a four chapter book on the Revolutionary War. They will be researching and taking notes to aid in their book.

Reading: This week we will be starting a new writing unit. The students will be reading about historical events. We will be focusing primarily on the Revolutionary War, which coincides with the writing unit.

Word Study: The students will be receiving new words this week. Their tests will tentatively be scheduled for Wednesday, January 20th.

Science: The next science chapter will cover circuits and electricity.

Math: We will also begin a new math chapter. Chapter 8 will cover fractions. This week we will review factors and multiples. They will also learn the difference between prime and composite numbers.

Snowmen Salesmen

The students created snowmen that had to be under a certain weight limit and budget. They are trying to convince a town to buy their snowmen! Who wouldn't want to buy these??
