Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend! It felt short after the four day weekend we had last week. I am happy to have a full five days this week, though!

Here is what is happening this week:

Writing: We are continuing to work on our informational pieces about Westward Expansion. Tomorrow we will work on the draft of the first chapter, which is an overview of Westward Expansion. The next chapter will be all about a subtopic they chose. Many of their topics include Sacajawea, Thomas Jefferson, discoveries found on the Corps of Discovery, etc. Their homework tonight was to finish their research of information about Westward Expansion to include in their first chapter.

Math: Their unit test will be on Wednesday. We covered chapters 13, 14 and 16. They received their study guide today and we will spend all of math reviewing tomorrow.

Reading: We are working on comparing and contrasting characters. We will also learn how to find pros and cons of topics using non-fiction texts. These strategies will help the students to better understand their texts and in writing.

Science: The Chapter 10 test is on Thursday. They received their study guide today. We will work on the study guide in class tomorrow and will review on Wednesday.

Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks!

Award for "carefully chosen bullet reasons that did not overlap and proved the claim!"
Award for "using transition words that linked pieces of the essay together"
Award for "a lead that hooks the reader"

Award for "an ending that reflects on the claim and suggests the reader take an action"
Award for "evidence that includes precise details and true facts to prove the claim"

Weekly Happenings

Hello! I hope everyone had a great, long weekend! We had a great first full week! The kiddos worked hard all week! We have an exciting week ahead of us!

Here is what's happening:

Writing: We are starting a new writing unit this week! This unit has the students writing non-fiction texts. In the first part of the unit, the students will be writing about a topic that relates to the Louisiana Purchase. After seeing how great the students did with essay writing, I feel confident about their abilities to write non-fiction texts!

Math: We will continue to work on division this week. The students will also learn how to find factors and multiples as well as tell the difference between prime and composite numbers.

Reading: This week we will continue to work on finding the cause and effects in texts. We will also work on determining similarities and differences.

Science: We are still working on learning about motion. This week we will work specifically on finding speed of objects.

Let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you!

In Music, the kiddos will need their recorders this quarter! Please remember to have your child bring their recorder to school tomorrow.

If they have lost their recorder or are new to Concord, they may purchase a new recorder for $5. Checks made payable to Lindbergh Schools.
