Weekly Happenings

Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Here is what is happening this week:

Reading: We will continue to analyze poetry. We will use the close reading strategy to get a deeper understanding of the poems we read.

Math: The students did a great job on their math tests! The next unit covers decimals. We will begin by relating fractions to decimals. They will also learn about equivalent decimals.

Writing: We are continuing to work on poetry. This week we are working on adding a mood to our poems. We are also working on how to use figurative language in our poetry. I am very impressed by the poems I have seen so far!

Social Studies: Due to some schedule conflicts, the social studies test will be pushed back to next week. We will take the test next Wednesday the 9th.

April 12-May 9: MAP testing

Weekly Happenings

Hello!! I hope everyone had a great spring break! I cannot believe it is already fourth quarter! What a great year we have had so far!

Here is what is happening this week:

Reading: This week we are working on poetry. We will be reading different types of poetry and finding the meaning as well as recognizing different poetic terms!

Math: We are finishing up unit 7 this week. The students have worked on many different fraction concepts.  This week we learned how to find probability using a fraction. They also are learning how to find the possible number of combinations.  Our unit test will be this Friday! 

Writing: We just started a new writing unit! Thank you again to everyone who came to our expert fair! The students were so proud to share their work, which they should have been! Over the next few weeks, we will be working on poetry.  Our goal is to create a class anthology! I cannot wait to see the poems they create!

Social Studies: We are currently in chapter 6. We have been learning about slavery, the causes of the Civil War, and about Missouri's role in the Civil War. This week we will continue learning about the Civil War. We will also discuss the difference between fact and opinion. Our test will be Thursday, April 3rd.

Weekly Happenings

Hello! I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather! It is about time! This is our last week before spring break! We have a lot of learning to fit in!

Here is what is happening this week:

Reading: We are continuing on working on the strategy of close reading, which means to read multiple times to gain a deeper understanding! With this, we are working on finding evidence in the text to support our answers!

Math: This week we are learning about fractions. The students will be able to write mixed numbers as improper fractions and improper fractions as mixed numbers. It is important the students have mastered their multiplication facts! We are also learning how to add and subtract fractions with like denominators.

Writing: The kiddos are working hard on their expert fair presentations! We started the posters today, and will continue to work on them this week!

Social Studies: We just started chapter 6 in social studies. This chapter covers the Civil War and the role Missouri had in it. The students are asking great questions and are very interested!

March 14 - Half Day
March 17-21 - Spring Break!

Weekly Happenings

Hello! I hope everyone enjoyed the snow day yesterday!
Here is what is happening this week:

Writing: This week we will be revising and publishing our informational books! Next Thursday will be the Gallery Walk for families to see all of the hard work these kiddos have put in!

Math: The students did fantastic on their geometry tests!! I am sending them home tonight for the students to make test corrections and get signed. They are due back tomorrow. Our next unit covers fractions! This week we will review how to write fractions and learn how to find equivalent fractions.

Reading: We are working on Close Reading. That means we read a book multiple times to get a deeper understanding. This week we will be Close Reading non-fiction texts.

Social Studies: Because of the snow day, we are now going to take the test on Thursday.
