Weekly Happenings

Hello! I hope everyone had a great Spring Break! The kiddos had so many fun things to share about their breaks!

Here is what's happening this week:

Writing: We will continue working on poetry. The students are learning a variety of different poems and poetic elements to experiment with in their writing. We will focus on using rhyme schemes and quatrains. They will also work on bio poems and prose.

Reading: We are continuing our test preparation unit. This week we will finish learning strategies for fiction passages. The students will learn to find the point of view, provide evidence for their answers, and make inferences about characters as they read. While your child is reading at home, encourage them to use these strategies.

Social Studies: This week we will be focusing on the events during and after the Civil War. The students will learn the similarities and differences between the Union and Confederate. They will also learn what life was like for civilians in Missouri during the Civil War.

Math: We will begin geometry this week! We will be focusing on different types of lines and angles. The students will learn to identify, draw, and measure angles. Their test is scheduled for Friday, April 8th.

Weekly Happenings

Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend! I am looking forward to a great week!

Here is what's going on this week: 

Writing: We have begun working on a poetry unit. The students are working to effectively use line breaks, stanzas, and figurative language in their poems. I am impressed with their quality of work so far! 

Reading: We have moved on to a Test Prep. unit. In this unit, the students will work on the different strategies good test takers use when reading a passage and answering questions. Please make sure your child is doing at least 20 minutes of reading a night.

Word Study: During this time, we will be working on different grammar and punctuation lessons. This week, the students will learn how to use relative nouns. We will review the rules of capitalization.

Social Studies: We've finished the Oregon Trail game! The students learned a ton and had a great time! We are now moving on to studying the Civil War. The students will focus on the causes of the Civil War and the Reconstruction period.

Math: We are learning how to find the area and perimeter of squares and rectangles. They will take a quiz over these concepts on Friday.

Weekly Happenings

Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend and got to enjoy the amazing weather!

Here is what's going on this week: 

Writing: The students' informational books are due this Wednesday. They will begin working on their posters and speeches for the Expert Fair. I hope to see you at the Expert Fair on Wednesday, March 9th at 9:00.

Reading: We are continuing to learn about the different poetry elements. We will also dive deeper into the meaning of different poems.

Word Study: Their word study tests will be this Wednesday.

Social Studies: This week the students will continue the interactive Oregon Trail game. They will work in groups to make it to the end of the trail. They will have to make decisions and face challenged along the way.

Math: This week we will focus on the different units of measurement in the Metric System. They will also convert the different units. Their test over both measurement systems will be this Friday.

Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend and got to enjoy the amazing weather!

Here is what's going on this week: 

Writing: The students' informational books are due this Wednesday. They will begin working on their posters and speeches for the Expert Fair. I hope to see you at the Expert Fair on Wednesday, March 9th at 9:00.

Reading: We are continuing to learn about the different types of figurative language poets use. We've learned about similes, metaphors, personification, idioms, and hyperbole.

Word Study: Due to interruptions during our word study time, their tests will be pushed back to next Wednesday, March 9.

Social Studies: This week the students will be part of an interactive Oregon Trail game. They will work in groups to make it to the end of the trail. They will have to make decisions and face challenged along the way.

Math: We are continuing to learn about the Customary Measurement system. We will also move onto the Metric Measurement system. Their test over both measurement systems will be next Friday.
