Weekly Happenings

Hello! What a great first week of school we had! I am so impressed by the community of learners we have! This coming week is full of new learning experiences!

Here's what is happening:

Writing:  We started our realistic fiction unit today! This week the students will work on generating small moment ideas and developing believable characters! I look forward to seeing the great ideas they come up with!

Reading:  This week we are focusing on how understanding our characters can help us make meaning of the text. We have put ourselves in our character's shoes and made connections with them. When your child reads at home, encourage them to continue using these strategies.

Science: We are continuing with chapter 3 this week. The students are learning how animals inherit their characteristics and how they use them to survive in the wild. They will complete a project to test their knowledge of the material in chapter 3.

Math: We started math stations this week! They did a great job working hard in their stations and during the small group lessons! This week the students are reviewing and expanding our knowledge of place value.

Important reminders:

• Curriculum night is this Thursday, August 28th at 7:00
• Please continue to bring in the student forms from Meet the Teacher Night
• Girls on the Run sign up ends September 5.
• NO SCHOOL Monday, September 1.

Buddies

We had our first meeting with our first grade buddies this week! The fourth graders were great role models and friends to their new buddies! 

Weekly Happenings

Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend! Our few days went amazing! We got to know each other and started to build a community of learners! This week we will continue doing so plus starting some of our core
subjects!

Here is what's happening this week:

Writing: Tomorrow we will decorate our Writer's Notebooks! Those notebooks will come home almost every night and should be very special to each student! They will need to bring in any supplies they want to decorate their notebooks with (pictures, stickers, markers, ect). We will also continue setting up our expectations for writers' workshop and build writing stamina!

Reading: This week we will continue setting up our class expectations for readers' workshop. Today we talked about how to pick just-right books. We will also build our reading stamina.

Math: This week we are setting up math stations! The students will practice four different stations and how to sound and look at each station! They did a great job today!

Science: Today we started chapter 3, lesson 1. We are learning about the different classifications of plants and animals. We will continue chapter 3 throughout the week!

Writing Workshop

Today we brainstormed ideas to write about in our Writer's Notebooks! It seemed to work because the students were all hard at work the whole time!
