Weekly Happenings 2.27-3.3

Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend! I can't wait for another great week!

Here is what's happenings this week:

Writing: The students need to finish their informational pieces by this Friday, March 3. They will use this week to revise, edit, and publish. To celebrate this piece, we will have an Expert Fair! At the fair, the students will present a poster highlighting the most important information from their books. Parents and relatives are invited to our Expert Fair. The Expert Fair will be March 9, from 9:00-9:00. You can come anytime between 9:00-9:30 and stay for as long as you want!

Reading: The students are still part of book clubs! We will focus on how to record notes that can spark a discussion! They are encouraged to stop and jot as they read. The goal is to use their notes to keep their book club conversations alive! Please encourage your child to read their book club book at home. It is their responsibility to keep up with their reading! 

Word Study: We will be working on different grammar concepts for the next few weeks!

Social Studies: We just wrapped up our Oregon Trail game! All the wagons made it to Oregon safely! The groups did a great job working together to make tough decisions! We will have a test over the pioneer chapter this Thursday. We will complete the study guides tomorrow. LEAP students received theirs today.

Math: We are working on converting different types of customary measurement. This week we will work on converting units of weight and time. Their test will be next Thursday. Please continue to work on multiplication facts with your child. They play an important role when trying to convert.

Weekly Happenings 2.21-2.24

Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend enjoying the amazing weather! This week is Kindness Week at Concord! Each day we have a different theme which promotes kindness! Below you can find a list of the different themes!

Here is what's happenings this week:

Writing: The students will continue drafting their informational books. They will continue to focus on organizing their writing using paragraphs and headings. They will also chose the appropriate text structure for their information! To celebrate this piece, we will have an Expert Fair! At the fair, the students will present a poster highlighting the most important information from their books. Parents and relatives are invited to our Expert Fair. The Expert Fair will be March 9, from 9:00-9:00. You can come anytime between 9:00-9:30 and stay for as long as you want!

Social Studies: The students are working together to get their wagon through the Oregon Trail! They are working together to make tough decisions along their journey. They've had to cross rivers, brave a terrible storm, go hunting for food, and decide which supplies were most important to bring with them. We will continue this game the rest of the week! They will be tested over this chapter Thursday, March 2.

Math: The students will begin the next chapter, which covers customary units of measurement. This week they will practice measuring to the nearest 1/4 inch. They will also learn how to covert units of length, capacity, and weight.

Oregon Trail Game

The students are working together to get their wagon through the Oregon Trail! Along the way they have to make decisions on how to handle obstacles such as running low on food, crossing rivers, surviving dangerous weather, and taking care of their livestock. They have been learning a lot about the difficulties the pioneers faced!

Weekly Happenings 2.13-2.17

Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend enjoying the amazing weather!

Here is what's happenings this week:

Writing: The students will continue drafting their informational books. They will focus on adding text features and quotes that highlight the main idea.

Reading: We will wrap up our informational text unit this week. The students will begin book clubs later this week! Please continue to make sure you child is reading at least 20 minutes at night. They have a pink reading log that needs to be filled out daily and signed by an adult weekly. Thank you for your help with this!

Word Study: Their test will be Wednesday, February 22.

Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about pioneers and Westward Expansion. The students will be playing an Oregon Trail game this week. They will work in groups to make decisions along their journey on the trail. They will need to buy their supplies, build a wagon, decide how to cross rivers, ect. We will test over the pioneer chapter next Friday.

Math: We will wrap up our decimal unit this week. The students will learn how to compare and order fractions. We will also spend time reviewing the concepts from this chapter. Their test is this Friday.

Weekly Happenings

Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend and a happy Super Bowl Sunday! 

Here is what's happenings this week:

Writing: The students are creating another informational book! This will be on a topic of their choosing. This week the students will work on researching and planning their drafts.

Reading: We will continue to work on reading non-fiction. They will use some of their reading time researching the topic they've chosen to write about! Please continue to make sure you child is reading at least 20 minutes at night. They have a pink reading log that needs to be filled out daily and signed by an adult weekly. Thank you for your help with this!

Word Study: Their test is this Wednesday.

Social Studies: We are moving back to social studies for the next few weeks! This week we will learn how pioneers lived and explored west. We will also learn about Missouri becoming a state.

Math: I am so proud of all their test grades! They did great on their fraction test! The next chapter will cover decimals. This week we will focus on how to read and write decimals up to the hundredths place value.

We used oil, water, food coloring, and an Alka-Seltzer tablet to make lava lamps!

Science Stations

The students worked to complete different science stations! They separated a mixture, observed the density of objects, found the volume of objects, and compared and contrasted different types of matter!
