Weekly Happenings

Hello! I hope everyone enjoyed the three day weekend! What awesome weather we've had!

Here is what's happening this week:

Writing: This week we are wrapping up revision work and beginning to edit. We will use different lenses as we edit to focus on different pieces of editing. Their stories will be due next Thursday, Oct. 9th.
Here is the editing checklist we will be using.

Reading: This week we will be working on making inferences. We will use various texts to make inferences. Encourage your child to make inferences as they read at home!
We used clues from the text to infer what the character in My Man Blue looked like.

Social Studies: This week we will be working on our Missouri Brochure, which explains the 5 different regions. We will also be making Salt Maps! For this, we are asking each student to bring in a Ziploc bag with 1 cup of flower and 1/4 cup of salt. Please put your child's name on the bag. I sent home a green sheet that explains the project further. Thank you!

Math: We are continuing to work on multiplication this week. They are learning how to solve word problems and learning the properties of multiplication. Their test will be next Thursday, Oct. 9th.

Word Study: The spelling tests will be this week. Orange and Green groups will test on Thursday. Blue and Purple groups will test Friday. They have a copy of their words in their binder to study this week. We have also been working with these words in class the last week.

Important Reminders:
Please bring in Salt Map Supplies by Oct. 1st

Weekly Happenings

Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend! I am excited for another week of learning!

Here is what's happening this week:

Writing: The students realistic fiction drafts are turning out great! They are all working so hard. This week we will continue drafting and begin the revision process.

Reading: We are continuing to deepen our understanding of characters. We have been focusing on why characters may act 'out of character'. The students have been doing a great job analyzing their characters!

Science: We will begin wrapping up chapter 4 this week. Instead of a test, the students will be working on a final project. They will have class time to complete this project. However, if they do not finish in class they may need to take it home over the weekend. The final project assesses their knowledge of food chains and ecosystems.

Math: This week we will finish chapter 2, which covers addition and subtraction. In particular, we will work on subtracting across zeros and solving word problems. Their test will be this Friday.

Word Study: The students received their first set of spelling words today. Their test is tentatively scheduled in two weeks. They will most likely test Monday the 29th or Tuesday the 30th. I will let them know as it gets closer to their test date. They have a copy of their words that remains in their binders.

Important Reminders:
*Early Release - 9/17
*Math Test - 9/19
