Weekly Happenings 9.5-9.8

Hello! I hope everyone had a great long weekend! I'm hoping the summer weather isn't gone for good!

Here is what's happenings this week:

Writing: The students will continue drafting their realistic fiction story. We are focusing on showing what is going on instead of telling. They are doing this by adding inner thinking, dialogue, description, and action.

Word Study: Spelling lists will come shortly! Currently, we are using this time to make and paint their maps.

Social Studies: We will paint and label our maps this week! Once the maps are finished, we will start the next chapter of social studies. This chapter focuses on how Native Americans migrated to the United States and where they settled.

Math: We moved onto chapter 2 of math. This chapter covers addition and subtraction. The test will be next Friday, September 15.

Reading: We will continue to focus on reading fiction books. The students will work to build ideas about their characters, such as character traits, change, and point of view. Please make sure your child is reading at home each night. They will use their independent books to practice a lot of these new skills. Feel free to have your child tell about the characters in their book!

Important Dates:
9.8 - Movie Night
9.13 - Early Release, dismiss at 1:40
