Weekly Happenings 2.12-2.16

Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend! The kids have a short week and an extra long weekend to look forward to!

Here is what's happening this week:

Writing: The students will finish revising and editing their pieces. Their final piece is due Wednesday, February 14. We will have a small writing celebration on Wednesday. They will also begin brainstorming topics for their next informational books. This will be a topic of their choice!

Word Study: The students will practice sorting and spelling their words. Their tests will be Wednesday, February 21.

Science: We will spend more time learning about atoms and static electricity. They will take a short quiz over this information on Thursday. They will need to know the parts of an atom, what charges they have, and what causes static electricity. We will also begin learning how electrical circuits work.

Math: This week, the students will learn how to read and write tenths and hundredths as decimals and fractions. We will learn how to compare and order decimals. They will also work on adding fractions with denominators of 10 and 100.

Reading:  We will work on a variety of non-fiction reading skills in their guided reading groups. Some skills we will focus on are summarizing, finding the author's purpose, finding evidence to support their thinking and finding the point of view. Please make sure your child is still reading at least 20 minutes each night.

Important Dates:
2.14 - Valentines Day
2.16 - No School
2.19- No School
