Weekly Happenings 3.12-3.16

Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend! This is our last week before spring break! I cannot wait to hear everyone's plans for their week off of school!

Here is what's happening this week:

Writing: The students will finish their informational books this week. They'll work on revising and editing their pieces. They will also add text features to highlight their main ideas. Their pieces should be finished by the end of writing on Thursday.

Word Study: We will spend this week learning about compound and complex sentences.

Social Studies: We are moving back to social studies this week. When we ended social studies last time, we had been learning about the causes of the Revolutionary War. We will now learn about the Declaration of Independence and the famous battles in the war.

Math: We are starting chapter 12 this week. This chapter covers the metric units. This week, they will learn the metric units for length, capacity, and mass. The test over chapter 12 will be after spring break on March 29.

Reading:  We will work on a variety of non-fiction reading skills in their guided reading groups. Some skills we will focus on author's purpose, point of view, and theme. Please make sure your child is still reading at least 20 minutes each night.
