Weekly Happenings 3.26-3.29

Hello! I hope everyone had a great spring break! I loved hearing about the many adventures each kiddo had! We had a great first day back!

Here is what's happening this week:

Writing: We will spend the first couple days this week preparing for the Expo Night, which is tomorrow night. They are working in groups to learn more about a specific person from the Revolutionary War. Each group will create a construction paper version of their historical person. They will also make a video highlighting the important parts of the person's life. The last part of the week will be spent creating Google Sites to show off the informational books they just wrote. On Thursday, they will share their sites with each other.

Word Study: We will spend this week learning about compound and complex sentences.

Social Studies: We will continue to learn about the Revolutionary War. We will spend more time discussing the Declaration of Independence. We'll also look into the differences between the Continental Army and the British Army. They'll learn about the advantages and disadvantages of each army.

Math: Today, the students learned how to convert metric units. They learned an acronym to help with their conversions.

Their test over chapter 12 will be on Thursday. We'll spend most of this week going over the study guide and reviewing.

Reading:  We will work on a variety of non-fiction reading skills in their guided reading groups. Some skills we will focus on character traits, drawing conclusions, and theme. Please make sure your child is still reading at least 20 minutes each night.

3.27 - Concord Expo Night
