Weekly Happenings 3.5-3.9

Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend! It was great to hear how many kiddos got outside to enjoy the beautiful weather! Can you believe this is the last week of third quarter? This year is flying by!

Here is what's happening this week:

Writing: The students will continue drafting their informational books. Today, we worked on adding transitions to our writing. We will also work on writing conclusions and adding text features to their writing. These pieces should be completed by next Thursday, March 15.

Word Study: We will continue working on punctuating dialogue. We will also work on recognizing and writing compound and complex sentences.

Science: We finished our science stations today. We will spend the rest of this week reviewing how a circuit works. They will take a small quiz on circuits. They will have to determine whether the circuits are open or closed. We will also learn how energy is transferred. Next week, we will move back to social studies.

Math: We will wrap up chapter 11 this week. They will learn how to read and write line plots.
They will also learn how to solve measurement word problems. Please continue to work on multiplication facts with your child. The chapter 11 test will be this Friday, March 9th.

Reading:  We will work on a variety of non-fiction reading skills in their guided reading groups. Some skills we will focus on are drawing conclusions, making inferences, and for some, continuing working on summarizing. Please make sure your child is still reading at least 20 minutes each night.

Important Dates:
3.6 - Father Daughter Dance
3.9 - Half Day, End of 3rd Quarter
3.15 - Parent/Teacher Conferences
