Weekly Happenings

Hello! I hope everyone had a wonderful spring break! It was great to hear all about the fun things each student did during their break!

Here's what is happening this week:

Writing: Thanks again to those of you who came to the Expert Fair! This week we are starting poetry. We will be discussing how anthologies can have a theme. We will also be using different elements of poetry such as line breaks, stanzas, and rhyme.

Reading: This week we will practice a variety of reading strategies. We will use close reading to practice these strategies. Here is an overview of what close reading can look like:
Also, please encourage your child to write down their thoughts and/or questions as they read their book club books. They need to have at least 3 notes for each section of their reading. Here are some ideas to get them started:

Science: We will continue learning about electricity and magnetism. Today, we practiced making a variety of different circuits.

Math: Today we began learning about the metric system of measurement. The students will measure mass, capacity, and length using the metric system. We will also work on converting metric measurements. To conclude this chapter, we will take a quiz this Friday.
