Weekly Happenings

Hello! I hope everyone had a fantastic Winter Break! I loved hearing about all the wonderful activities my class got to do over break!

Here is what's happening this week:

Writing: We are moving from personal to persuasive essays. Some students may turn their personal essay thesis statements into persuasive thesis statements. Others may create totally new persuasive thesis statements. These essays will be written quickly and more independently. Our goal is to have them completed by next Friday.

Reading: Over the next few weeks, we will be working on context clues. The students will learn different strategies of how they can use context clues to find the meaning of an unknown word, phrase, or idea. We will use mostly nonfiction books when learning about using context clues.

Word Study: The students will get their new words this week. Their tests are tentatively scheduled for January 21st and 22nd. Orange and Blue groups will test on the 21st. Purple and Green groups will test on the 22nd.

Science: Today we started chapter 7. In this chapter the students will learn about matter. This week we will focus on the properties of matter and how to measure matter.

Math: We are moving on to fractions! This week we are going back to the basics to help them understand the fundamentals of fractions. We will work on multiples, factors, and prime and composite numbers. We will use this information to learn about equivalent fractions.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Important Reminders:
