Weekly Happenings

Hello! I hope everyone had a great long weekend and got to enjoy the amazing weather! We have a busy four day week ahead of us!

Here is what is happening this weeks:

Writing: I am so impressed by everyone's persuasive essays! They remembered and applied so many writing strategies we learned during our personal essay unit! This week we are starting our new unit where the students will be writing informational books. Their first books will cover the Louisiana Purchase.

Reading: We are continuing to work on using context clues. We have covered all the different ways to use context clues. This week we will use non-fiction texts with a variety of different context clues. The students will have to determine which type of context clues they are using to determine the meaning of unknown words.
Here is the poster we have been using to guide us.

Word study: Orange and Blue groups will test on Jan. 21st. Purple and Green groups will test on Jan. 22nd. Their contracts are due on the 22nd.

Science: We will be wrapping up chapter 7 this week. We will continue working on mixtures and solutions. We will also discuss how matter can change to different materials.

Math: This will be our last week for chapter 8. We will work on mixed numbers and improper fractions. We will also spend a couple days reviewing before the test on Friday.
