Weekly Happenings

Here is what's happening this week:

Writing: Now that we have learned how to write each of the four chapters, this week we will be finishing drafting, revising, and editing our informational books! Their books are due Monday the 9th. So they do not get behind, many students will need to work on drafting at home for their nightly writing.

Reading: This week we will continue to learn different informational text structures. Last week we looked at the differences between description and order and sequence text structures. This week we will look at cause and effect, problem and solution, and compare and contrast. If your child reads non-fiction at home, ask them what the text structure is and why they think that!

Word Study: Orange and Purple groups will test next Monday. Green and Blue groups will test next Tuesday. Their contracts are due on Tuesday.

Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about westward expansion and pioneers. We will learn more about the Oregon and Santa Fe trails. The test will be next Wednesday. They already have their study guides, so they can begin studying whenever they want!

Math: The mast test will be this Friday. This week we will learn how to solve word problems with fractions and how to multiply a whole number by a fraction. We will also spend some time reviewing for the test.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Important Dates:
2/6 - math test
2/11 - social studies test
