Weekly Happenings

Here is what's happening this week:

Writing: This week we will be working on the different chapters in our informational books. These books are focused around the Louisiana Purchase. There will be four chapters in their books.
Here is a list of the chapters:
The first chapter is all about the Louisiana Purchase. The second chapter is about a focus topic of their choice (Thomas Jefferson, Sacajawea, Lewis, Clark).

Reading: We wrapped up context clues last week. This week we will begin a unit on informational text structures. We will begin looking at description and sequence structures.
Here is a chart we will be using to help identify the text structure.

Word Study: The students just received their new words and contracts. Their tests are tentatively scheduled for February 9th and 10th.

Social Studies: This week we will jump back into social studies. We will be covering chapter 5. This chapter focuses on Missouri becoming a state and the pioneers who settled in Missouri. This week we will learn about the challenges pioneers faced when moving to a new territory.

Math: This week we will start chapter 9. Chapter 9 covers how to add, subtract, and multiply fractions. Please continue practicing the basic multiplication and division facts with your child. It is so important they know their facts!
